JULIAN GARVUE
Julian Garvue is a Seattle-based pianist and vocal coach currently completing his second year in the LA Opera Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program. He has served as staff pianist for LA Opera’s productions of "West Side Story", "Akhnaten", and "Falstaff" and was head coach for the Castleton Vocal Immersion Program, working closely with both faculty artists and pianist fellows to deepen collaborative skills and sensitivity in vocal accompaniment. He will spend the upcoming summer with West Edge Opera as staff pianist and harpsichordist for Handel’s *Rinaldo*.
As a soloist, Julian made his concerto debut in 2025 with the Seattle Collaborative Orchestra, performing Ravel’s "Piano Concerto in G Major". He previously appeared with the ensemble in 2018, performing his own award-winning composition, "Piano Concertino". Julian has participated in several prestigious training programs, including Wolf Trap, the Merola Opera Program, Music Academy of the West, SongFest, and the Castleton Vocal Immersion Program.
He holds a Master’s degree and Performer’s Diploma from Indiana University, where he studied with Kevin Murphy and Anne Epperson. Before focusing on collaborative piano, Julian worked as a freelance jazz pianist in New York City, taught elementary music in Queens, and recorded two albums with The Arsonists, as well as a free jazz project, "Doublefist", with colleagues from the Eastman School of Music. He earned his undergraduate degree from Eastman as a double major in Jazz Piano and Music Theory. A native of Seattle, he studied with Clarence Acox, Robert Knatt, and longtime teacher Pam Chang-Rice.
